Gio Beast popping trhough carb
#1
My girlfriend bought a Gio Beast 200CC just over a month ago. When running it seems to randomly backfire through the carb and stop. It only seems to do it at idle though. Also, when cold it seems to run like crap, you have to keep the choke closed for a few minutes with your hand on the throttle to keep it reving pretty fast, and it pops and backfires for a few minutes while riding untill it warms up. I still have the stock carb and exhaust on it. Does anybody know where I can get specs on carb adjustments on this thing, and general engine specs for the timing, etc... We have the idle mixture screw turned out 2.5 turns, it seems to pop through the carb alot more if we lean it out any more. I replaced the stock plug with an NGK one.

Hey befarrer
Welcome to the ATV Forums.
I have a 2008 250 Gio Bad Boy, It has the same carb. as your girlfriends 200 Beast.
Check out "HOW TO ADJUST A CHINESE CARB" at the top of this forum. The Chinese Quad Section.
This is a real helpful Post by 2manytoys.
Using this, my 250 Gio. is now running great.
Start with 2 turns out on the (rich-lean adjustment) and try about 3 to 3 1/2 turns out on your idle screw. This is a good starting point.
Attached is a Pic of the carb, showing the 2 adjustment screws.
If its still not running correctly, check for air leaks around the carb intake.
When engine is idling, try spraying some Ether or carb cleaner around the outside of the carb & plastic intake. If the idle changes you have a air leak. If you use carb cleaner make sure you wipe it off quickly as it can damage any plastic or paint.
