I had to rewire my childrens 110 cc Giovanni mini hummer ATV so to do this I removed the gas tank (and drained all the fuel from the carb). I also removed the needle so I could replace a damaged throttle cable. Since I had it all apart, I figured I would also replace the fuel line, clamps and filter. Now that I have it all put back together, the carb has developed a nasty leak. It appears that the bowl fills up to the point where it drains out the overflow as well as out of the air intake. I have read that this could be a result of a stuck float or a problem with the needle seat. I believe I have the needle seated properly but how does one go about "unsticking" the float? Is there a short cut besides removing and overhauling the carb? Also, could this problem have anything to do with the new lines and filter?

PS- this is not a new machine so it is not a problem with a gel pack in the carb.

 

no shortcuts pull the carb the floats either sticking or is not set correctly most likely.

did you have the bowl off? just for clarification.. the needle [ from the needle and seat, which controls fuel level in the bowl, is not the needle on the throttle slide.]

the float is eather sinking, or the neelde is not seating.

a quick test would be drop the bowl and manipulate the float up and down to ensure it's working properly. what i do is leave the gas line attatched and move the float up to make certain the flow of fuel is stopping. if you push the float up and it still drops gas, the needle and seat might be damaged.

if the float/ needle and seat all seem to be working properly [ the gas flow stops when the float is pushed up] the problem could be the float height.

 

This may not be your problem, but my quad is known for leaking out the overflow if I pour cold gas into the tank right up to the tippy top, then let the quad sit in the sun before starting. The expanding gas builds up pressure in the tank which force feeds the carburetor when I open the fuel shutoff. My gas cap only vents in, it won't let out pressure.
