You may be right. I can see from your pics that my clip doesn't set in the caliper like yours does. I'll see how it looks when the new pads come in and I put it back together.

The new pads finally came in. Looking at Sawyers pics I noticed the tin retaining clip that holds the brake pads in place on mine fit real loose on the caliper where his fit snug. I straitened the tin clip and re bent it to fit better on the caliper and put it all back together. If the rain stops Ill take it for a ride. If there's no problems we'll see how long it lasts.

So far so good 4 hours of riding today including small jumps and puddles and the brake pads are still in place with no signs of wanting to fall out.

Throw some Loctite green in place of the clip (kidding).

Is that the new green or the old green?

I think I did my first brake job somewhere around 1970. It was on the family's 67 Ford Station Wagon with 4 wheel drum brakes.

OneTenCC you might be on to something there. If I'm not mistaken mid 70's GM disk brakes had a bad squeal to them so GM came up with a paste you put on the back of the inner pad to glue it to the caliper piston. I wonder if I can still find that stuff. If I do find some I wonder if would stand up to mini ATV use.

Are you thinking of Sil-Glyde? I know I slather it on just about everything but the friction surfaces when I do a brake job. It's great stuff.

I don't think so. Sil-Glyde sounds like a silicone lubricant. What I'm talking about is the anti-squeal adhesive used on the back of the brake pad.
