Default 150cc atv question

I have a 150cc atv with a gy6 engine. It had a stock cdi which I believe is DC so I am looking to buy a winch for my atv do I need to buy a 12 volt dc winch or can it be a 12volt ac winch?

Default 12 Volt DC

All quads are 12 Volt Direct Current (DC)

I just bought a 2500 Badlands winch from Harbor freight.. Its a 12vDC . Can you buy a 12vAC winch? All batteries to my knowledge are DC..

I would strongly advise you don't get a winch for your ATV.
The current pull of a winch is likely going to be far greater than what your electrical system can produce, and that'll lead to things on fire.

So your saying I can't put a 12volt dc winch on my atv to lift a plow without it frying my electrical system?

The winch I'm looking at getting turns out to be a 12 volt dc 2000 pound pull winch. Why wouldn't that work?

Well reguardless a winch shouldn't fry my electrical system. I am playing around with a manual handle idea today. Kinda stuck, hence why a winch I think is best. It doesn't have a fuse just thw remote with positive and negirive to thw winch motor and then to the battery

Default Fuse

You need to fuse the winch. That way if you overload your battery the fuse will blow.
