Default Zstar 110 - Replace Ignition/Kill switch with inline switch?

Hello all,

I have been having the usual issues with the 3-position, turn signal-style ignition/kill switch on this Chinese 110. The ATV is full automatic, no key, push starter button, 5-pin CDI, 2 leads to the ignition coil, starter on top of motor.

I want to replace the 3-position ignition/kill switch with this setup:

Could anyone confirm or deny this being functional?

Thanks,

Green.

Not functional. You ether have the key switch feeding live to lights etc, and a separate part of the switch feeding earth to the CDI, so four wires, or a simple on off switch for live if the bike has a DC CDI, so two wires.

It is DC CDI, it has a 4-pin rectifier hooked up between the stator and the CDI box.

So, I could remove the OEM handlebar switch and just replace it with inline battery on/off switch and inline starter solenoid on/off switch?

Thanks,

Green.

You could just get the handlebar switch into the on position and put a push button starter some ware and use the key to shut it off. I bypassed all of that and put a heavy duty starter switch direct to start solenoid and use the key for on off

I tried it with the wiring setup I posted and it cranked the starter, but almost instantly blew the 15A fuse closest to the 4-Pole Terminal.

Any ideas?

15 amp fuse is not enough to turn the starter. My push button is rated for 30 or 40 amps.

Thanks for the tip.

I will grab some more higher amperage fuses tomorrow and give it another go.

also is that 4 pole terminal strip factory? usually the main starter power goes direct from battery with inline fusible link.

No I put the 4PTS in myself, just to neaten things up.

The starter motor is cranking over fine now with a 40A fuse, so that's all sorted.

Just have to fuel it up and hopefully it runs!
