110cc basket case into a Golf Cart...clutch issues?
#1
Not sure what brand 110cc / 107cc engine, but stripped down the harness and cleaned it up to get it to run.
Idles fine, but crawls slightly when put in gear forward or reverse.. The problem is it doesn't go much faster when I give it throttle. Feels like the clutch is slipping, I just want to make sure the weight of the cart isn't beyond the capabilities of the semi--auto clutch.
Seems to have 3 fwd and 1 reverse gear and looks very clean inside. Any pointers are greatly appreciated, I'm new to the world of Centrifugal clutches.
Should I upgrade springs? Try a different oil? Rebuild or replace?

So im assuming you have a semi auto with 3, 2, 1, N, R. These are not really clutch driven but gear driven. At least that what was explained to me. Not sure how well a 110 engine is going to run a golf cart. You have went from a machine under 300lbs to a machine thats probably 500 plus riders

Thanks for the response- the motor has plenty of torque to move me (at 250lbs plus cart) , and seems to rev fine, I just need the clutch to engage more fully. Not looking to build a rocket here, just something to putt around the neighborhood. Is there a way to adjust or tighten up these clutches? Maybe add shims or more clutches for a tighter lockup?

That's only about 250lbs what that engine and clutch were designed to handle. The little 110 were designed for kids under 16 and 200lbs. You have just increase the chassis weight by 250lbs plus your weight. Thats a lot on that clutch. No matter how tight you adjust it may always slip. On the right done on the machine you should see a bolt with a jamb nut on it. Loosen the nut and turn the bolt clockwise I think until you feel resistance and tighten nut. Also make sure your using wet clutch safe oil.
