Default 2008 Coolster 3125-x8 - Rebuild

Hello all,

I inherited this bike, 125 cc, to fix up for a friend. So I will tell you how I got it. Basically a frame and an engine, 4 tires all flat, a gas tank, a small amount of plastic that has literally crumbled away, no seat and some front end damage (tire rod torn from spindle, multi switch missing the kill switch and the hydraulic break lever - on left side for rears the little glass window is busted out), the right brake lever to the front tires is frozen and the wire harness is (or was as I have labeled and removed it) crumbling at the connections or the components are all dangling. They picked this thing up for $50 bucks. The guy did jump something to show the bike did start but they cant remember what he did and has sat an additional year at this point. My guess he jumped the kill switch which is busted to bypass and make it work.

I have done a lot of research already and basically from what I can find is there is a lot of universal parts and nothing really specific like say for a brand name where I can look up a part number and buy what I need. There are probably over 30 different multi switches alone that all say will work on this bike! Also it appears this bike doesn't have a choke, wire or cable??

I have pretty much sourced all the parts I know I need with the exception of the wiring harness.

I though about building my own wire harness to follow what is currently on the bike but that seems to be way more work and trying to get all the different connections.

So I'm needing to find a wiring harness that will work. I'm leaning on getting one of those harnesses that come with all the components as to what I'm seeing are replacement harnesses seem to have different colored wires and the connections don't appear to be the same as what I have. Also the harness on this bike looks to have been spliced or not even the original that came with it but was told it does fire the bike up.

I still need to pull the stator to see what kind I need for this.

The unique thing with this bike is not foot brake, hydraulic brake on the left with the locking button and manual brakes on the right with a wire connection going to that. 2 headlights in the front and one to the rear. They spliced in what looks like a remote kill unit which I will be ditching.

I just want to make sure I get the right harness with enough connections and the descriptions and pictures I have seen on line so far makes it difficult to tell I'm getting the right one.

Anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. I also want to make sure it is wired correctly as well and would hate to tear apart a new harness to redo everything.

Also I'm reading that the 3125x8 is also the same as a 3125R or a 3125B but not sure if those ones where set up the same way. Other parts do looks similar, just want to get this harness nailed down.

Thanks.

You have, at least, foreseen the problems you are going to get with a "universal" wiring harness. If your existing harness is that close to working. I suspect it will be easier to get it going with that than fit a new one and work out how the bits you don't get, couple up with the remains of the old set up. However, as you don't know how hard it will be to fix the existing loom, or how difficult fitting a new one is going to be, you will just have to guess, and go with it.

I downloaded this from here years ago, it shows how a basic 4 wire regulator and AC CDI system is wired, many bikes are a lot more complicated, but if you can find the wires which do the same job (not necessarily the same colours,) on your harness, you may work out how they go.
