Default New lightweight radials?

I posted this elsewhere, but I am hoping for more feedback.

Who else is coming out with new radial tires soon? I see that Maxxis has the Bighorn Radials in the works. The Bighorns look to be available as 8 inch and 10 inch like the ATR's. It looks like the ATR's are lighter at 15lb and 21lb versus 21lb and 27lb for the Radial Bighorns.

The extra weight would be worth it if they hook up better. I don't know how accurate those weights are either.

The Badland XTR's are interesting. The fronts are 4 ply, 6.5 inch wide, and 14.7lbs. The rears are 6 ply, 8 inches wide and 19.7lbs. They only come as 25 inchers. The raised center lugs make me wonder how they handle and bite.

Take a look at the original Badlands series and compare the design to the Holeshots. Hmmmm. ITP must have seen something they liked.

The Goodyear MTR's look interesting too. Although, I can't find any specs or extended info on them. I only found those pics of them at ATVConnection. Looks like those are 26x8x12 fronts and 26x11x12 rears. They are probably going to be on the heavy side. I find it interesting that AC is putting on some decent stock tires.

Anyone hear of any more?

Thanks for the tip, but I am interested in the new "lightweight" radial tires for fast aggressive riding.

Laws are slugs and I have the originals anyway.

I'm in the same boat as you DWB. I want a tire to use for sportier rides. If the ATR's came in 26's that' the way I'd go. But they appear to be a little lower profile than even the stockers. With all the stumps around here I'm nervous about giving up ground clearance.

My worry is several people have said the side walls aren't very tough and have ripped them. I ride lots of rock mostly lava rock and it is sharp I worry about slicing the side walls out. That was why I was interested in the goodyears to see if they are tougher in the rocks. Also I want 26 inchers, but I don't really need or want mudders. I just want my cake and to eat it too. Is that too much to ask?

Unfortuneatly it comes down to, where are they going to cut the weight & still keep the tire durable... Highlifter is making a "new" lighter radial Outlaw, this interests me, but where they are cutting the weight is in the sidewalls... this is perhaps the wrong line to take ??? I don't know much about the Maxxis Alltracs ( not a radial, yet anyway ), but they are only a 2 ply tire, yet alot of racers use them... it is much easier to fix a tire with a puncture on the tread, than the side wall...

Ply... could be anything... nylon, steel, kevlar... does anyone know if there is a "ply" standard... perhaps the plys on the Alltracs, are twice as thick, equaling the strength of a standard 4 ply ????

what I think we need is a tough 2-4 ply radial tire, with the same thickness through out the sidewall... ( 3 ply ??? )

only 5 radial tires so far ??? ATR's, New Goodyears, Big Horns, Badlands, & Outlaws... only 2 available in taller than 25" Goodyears, & Outlaws... I think there are some knobby patterns either by Carislyle or Chen Shing...??? I'd like to know more about the Goodyears, anyone know anymore, or have a link to a picture ???

thanks...WAM
