Default Aftermarket suspension for Warrior

I'm currently looking for new suspension for a 2001 Warrior, and was looking for someone who makes at least dual rate with compression adjustable for a decent price. Does anyone know if Ohlins can compete with other multirate shocks, even without the compression adjusting on the front? Ohlins seems to be the intermediate in price range, but I don't know how they perform.

Ohlins are very good shocks. They don't have the name of Axis, Elka, PEP, Works, whatever .... but good.

figure out a amount you want or can spend etc and go from there.

Another part of the decision should be what type of riding you do and what level your skills are and if you race etc. If you dont have the $$ or need the advantage of the higher end stuff just go fr a set of works steelers and you should be happy.

How smooth do the Ohlins run compared to the triple rate shocks? It seems like the coils on the Ohlins taper to a lighter gauge of coil as look towards the one end. I mostly ride aggressively on deep wooded trails, with some downright cruel and nasty whoops and jumps. I must also make very sharp turns, so a zero preload shock might be better for me. I probably might bite the bullet and get dual rate comp adj elka suspension on both front and rear.

I don't know what shock Ohlins makes for the Warrior or I could analyse it more with you. If you care to share a link I'd be happy to look at it.

I need to bite the bullet myself and get a rear shock... and sell my 2 for that matter LOL

So far I might just go with the Elka dual rate w/compression adj. instead for the front and rear, since most of my riding is in the woods. With all the sharp turns on the trails I ride on the zero preload isn't a bad idea. With all the money I have to spend to get suspension in the first place, I guess I'll throw the extra few hundred and go all out. So far motojoe's has the front package with 2" wider L.S. a arms with all necessities for $1,495.00. For the rear I would buy the rad carrier from there also for 200.00, but get the DB X-33 for the warrior from Rocky Mountain atv since it seems to be the only place that carries the X-33 for the warrior (450.00). If I'm biting a bullet, I'd say it came from Doc Holliday's 10 gauge!!! Moto Joe's will ask for a price that you see on their website or elsewhere while on the phone, so contact me for details on how to get things cheaper from them if you choose to do so.

Keep this in mind.

You can get some decent shocks from works without spending a ton a $$$.

If you do a front shock with a sag spring or zps etc you need to change the rear to match or the quad will be off balance and thats a problem (check out my suspension thread if you want more info on front to rear balance etc).

Elka is a great shock (no real problems with mine) but will the other mods your looking at require this level etc, but then again I think you can get them from $575 approx. without rezy so maybe you would decide to do without the rezy for a better overall shock.

That package deal sounds like a lot of $$$ to me, so look around at what else is out there. I know all these mfg's keep raising the prices but if you look at 575 for elka and 575 for a pair of houser a-arms you are not anyware near $1500.00 and there are less expensive mfg's out there also.

Remember your not talking about racing the quad so dont get trapped into the best of everthing etc, and if you want to be able to really fly in the woods it may be time to look into putting your $$$$ into a new machine.

Dont take that the wrong way but I have a warrior too and in stock or modified trim its no comparison to the EX I have now and the newer stuff is beyond them both etc.

Just pointing out some things that should save you a headache in the future as this is supposed to be fun

The reason the package is so much is that it comes with A arms (L.S.) and everything needed for the warrior, and I'm a lightweight, so I need shocks that are comp. adj., which works doesn't make for the warrior. If I could find a place that had dual or tri rate works that are comp adj. I would go with them. I only weigh 130 so the power of a warrior already enables me to beat a 400EX at stock bore size. My good friend raced me on the beaches of lake superior, and I kept right up with him no prob without even hitting full throttle. The whole problem with the warrior is the intake and exhaust systems, they really suck in stock form. I wouldn't ever buy another machine because of the comfort factor I have on my warrior, I've ridden z400's (indeed one of the best bikes out there in my opinion) and others, but I wasn't comfortable on them. I really like the simplicity of working on the warrior also. All of these reasons are why I don't sell it and get another bike. In one way it's like restoring a classic car into a hot rod to me. Eventually I plan to turn this thing into a unique piece of machinery, which is why I don't stick to one brand of skids and nerfs, ect. Check out that swingarm guard on my page and you'll see what I mean. Don't worry I don't get offended by suggestions, my friends joke around saying things in really bad ways intentionally but are just joking, I'm used to it. The warrior has a lot of potential that people can't see. It's not the machine it's what you do with it and how you run it. Thanks for replying, and let me know if you know a place where another good brand of suspension is that's adjustable and cheaper (I might wait for a arms later and go with dual rate elkas that are comp adj for around 800 w/rezzys)

You might be able to get TCS cheaper.

Mickey Dunlap sells some nice kits for the Warrior you might be interested in

Just thinking out loud but check this stuff out.

Shocks:

TCS (thanx thomez ) , ebay for new only or really really priced right since you would need to have them rebuilt and revalved, respring etc and that runs some $$$. I have also seen a couple decent deals on various shocks that were used from places that rework shocks etc so check them out. I didnt realise that works didnt have comp adjustment on shocks for the warrior, and this actually seems pretty weird so make sure etc.

A-arms:

Damn do you have some choices here (I am not 100% sure on every one of these mfg's avail for this model but have seen or heard good things about them etc) and many should be less than LSR and if combined with the correct shocks you should get good results and save some serious $$. On a side note I want to let you know that the price you listed for the front set up was more than what I paid for the ELka 19" quadrates (comp, piggy back rez) and Houser LT +1 a-arms. I know these guys have raised there list price considerable in the 1.5 years I have them but have been told the dealer price has only gone up $35-50. I will also add that I saved a bunch of $$ shopping around too.

Check out Houser, Strong arm, Jansen, JD, Eyeball and all the others you see in the smaller adds in the mags. I would deff suggest talking it up on them in the forums too and especially brands not listed above. All the one I listed have been used by someone I know (eigher in person or here in cyber land LOL) and they gave them a thumbs up. I know theres a lot more out there but I dont have any info on them so I didnt list them.

Good luck on your decision.
