Need advice on rims
#1
I'm looking to get a set of douglas rims for my '03 z400. I have stock rims right now which i assume are .125 thick rims? I've just started riding some great trails we found, but unfortunately there are quite a few rocks. I dented my stock rim and slashed a sidewall. I was thinking of going with the .190 thick rears, but on the douglas website it states that the .160's are very strong and much lighter than the .190's. anyone know what the weight difference is? My z is all stock and I have some concern about adding to much reciprocating mass and slowing down to much/ or breaking stuff like tranny's or axles.
Pretty new to this so any help is appreciated.
thanks, maczzz

I think the stock z400 rims are .190 with a rolled edge. They are much stronger than douglas .160 and .190 standard rims.
If the stock rims are not strong enought for you, you need to look at a set of race or beadlock wheels with support rims, but they will be heavier than stock, but not enough to be noticeable.
Another alternative is hiperwheels. They are made of carbon fiber and plastic and are almost indestructable.

What he said! Stock rims are as strong or stronger than most of the aftermarket rims out there.
ITP Baja is what I run in the desert! You know why they hold up so good? Because I paid so much for them, no way am I going to mess up and hit a rock!!! These rims really sharpen my riding skills!
