King Quad tires
#1
I am in need of help. I want to replace my stock tires and rims on my 92 King Quad 4x4. I have heard that switching from the stock
tire size could hurt the 4 wheel drive differential. Is this true? My stock sizes are front 24x8x11 rear 25x10x12.
I don't really care if the tires are bigger, I just want more options to choose from. I travel pretty far in the backcountry and
can not afford to have mechanical problems. I really like the King Quad, even though it would be nice to have more power.
Well maybe one day a can afford a new machine. Thanks for any help..

Buy the same size tire but get something like the ITP 589 or the Goodyear Mudrunners. Be prepared to spend about 500 bucks at least for 4 tires up here in Alaska. You may be able to get them a little cheaper via mail order.

MadKing,
Welcome to the forums.
Try Kenda Bear Claws in the same tire size, I had them on my King and they were an awesome tire for the trails that we have. The tire is a 6ply with a great tread pattern. I found mine on the internet out of Texas and the tires cost less then 200 hundred but when they added in shipping it was more then the tires cost. So I had them shipped to my in-laws and then I was able to put them in the mail for 30 bucks for two tires.(parcel post, takes a little longer but way cheaper)
In your case if you do not have anyone to due this for you is to find a tire dealer who also ships Postal as well as the usual Fed-X or UPS. If you can go this route you can get them for around 300 and save 200 dollars.
I agree that the King does need alittle more power and the brakes, that is if you have any, suck. All in all it is agreat machine and there are alot of them still running around on the trails and parts can still be had.
Happy Wheeling.

AlaskaBoy, Do you remember the company in Texas? I have looked at Bear Claws and that is what I really want but am unable
find them in the stock front 24x8x11 size. If I could find them west of the Mississippi my folks could pick them up for
me on their way up here in April. What do you think of maybe going up a size front and back? Will a wider tire in front
run ok? How do you like the MudLites?
Thanks again to all!!

MADKing,
I do not remember the name of the company since it was so long ago. But I did some research for you and the best price I found online was from RockyMountainATV and they want 40 bucks for the fronts(24X9X11) and the rears are 45 bucks(25X10X12) I do not know what shipping would run but they are in Utah so I could not imagine it would cost to much to get them to your folks. Give them an email and see what they say.
As for finding the exact size for the front is not a choice with this tire. It is alittle wider and you will get some more mud thrown at you since it does stick out afterwards. The wider the stance gives more stabilty anyways and that is a good thing. I know you will love this tire and it will improve your off-roadability tremendously and if I could of gotten them when I picked up my Kodiak I would of. Unfortunantly I was in a hurry to pick it up so I went with the MudLites and they have proven them selves a great as the Bear Claws but they are wearing faster(tread) and I do not think I will get the life expectancy I like out of them. The tire compound of the tire tread is softer then the Bear Claws and I have found them easy to chunk while spinning on ice and edges have rounded off quickly, also small cuts which will lead to more chunking.
As for going up a size I would stick to just getting the little wider tire up front and stay the same in the rear because If you go up in tire size you will rob the quad of too much power and in my book the King needs all of it speed if you load it up to heavy for some of the hills up here. I know somebody will say not to overload it but it never seems you are to heavy until you are committed and the power loss is evident at the wrong time.
Personaly, I will buy the Claws next time around but that will not be for several more years.
I looked at alot of tire sites and found alot of them do not carry or are out of stock of the 24X9X11 and the site up top I listed had the best price but the shipping is another story. Let me know what they say and i hope this helps.
