Honda-oddosy/Pilot drive systems 85--91.
Polaris atvs-current and past.
Honda even built a car with it.But it wasen't released.
Beware,I think the sun is setting on that tecnology fast.

Chanse, if I were you, I'd contact the engineering departments of Polaris, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, and/or Arctic Cat; explain your project and ask for information and assistance.
I see you're an Aggie; surely you can find someone from UT to help you with your letter (just kidding! just kidding!).
Basically, continuously-variable transmissions of the types found on ATV's listed above work like this: tapered belt sheaves vary their clearance or distance (with load and rpm), effectively changing the belt contact radius, varying drive ratios.
I apologize for this amateur attempt at explanation; genuine experts among Forum readers can do a better job and will correct any errors in my effort.
Good luck on your project, and I was only kidding with the Aggie joke. When in high school, I hitchhiked to football games at Kyle (?) Field in College Station, watching 11 men on the field, and the "twelfth man" in the stands. You understand.

Get yourself a copy of Olav Aaen's "Clutch Tuning Handbook" it has anything you would want to know about cvt transmissions. You can get one from: Aaen Performance, 316 Sheridan Rd., Racine WI 53403, phone 414-552-8981.koz
