Foot Pegs and Winter Riding (snow)
#1
I have two questions. First, about foot pegs. A couple weeks ago, I bought some DG nerfs. They didn't fit on my quad ('99 400EX) and I returned them. However, in order to get the nerfs on, I had to remove the mud guards. When I went to reinstall the mud guards, I found a bolt that was FUBAR. I got a new bolt, but I never reinstalled the mud guard. I rode all this past weekend with one mud guard and one plain foot peg. I liked the single plain foot peg better, but I am worried about protection. The mud guard does offer some protection, not much, if a foot slips backwards. Nevertheless, if all the weight on my foot went down on the guard, I am pretty sure it would just break off. Many quads set up for MX, desert and dunes simply have straight foot pegs and no guards. I like the straight peg but I am still concerned about safety.
My second question has to do about snow riding. I know snow won't be coming for a few months now, but I still want to know if snow riding can be harmful to bearings on the suspension and axle/swingarm. When snow melts, it would be just like water, and water is harmful to bearings. Am I worrying about nothing or are there things I can do to prevent potential damage to the suspension and swingarm bearings?

in regards to your first question i say take them off. i took the ones off my banshee and never had any problems with my feet slipping into the tire. as for your second question i dont see why snow running could be hazardous i do it all the time and havent had any problems.

Mike,
I took my mud guards off of my 400EX because of the mud that would get packed in there.
A trick that I did was to take a file to the footpegs to sharpen them and installed a pair of footpeg extentions and have had no trouble with my feet slipping off.
