Which would be better vamps, blackwaters , or super swampers. We pull a trailor somtimes. We often go creek riding I live in the south. We drive down dirt and gravel roads also sometimes we have to hit the pavement for a mile or less. would the Honda 400 96' model turn 26 inch tires our would I need to use 25 inch tires. We want larger tires for more ground clearance would we have any fender rub. What would be my new top speed would we need new rims?

Thank you

If you go with the Vamps you can run 26" tires on the stock rims. If you go with 1 of the other 2 you will have to change the wheels to 12" wheels or go with 25" tires. So, I would say go with the Vamps, I have a freind who has them on his 400 and he has NO TROUBLE turning them, sometimes he wishes he had bought the 27" Vamps.

VAMPS are much better than blackwaters for mud, on the trail the blackwaters are better but vamps arent that bad. I can way out pull my friend with swampers, he wishes he had vamps.

Thanks,

I have heard of that somtimes they slide around on hard packed surfaces, and that they drain alot of power. We want to get 26x9.5 on the fronts and 26x12 so i wont need to rims right.

thanks again

The reason for the sliding around is the 12" wide tires. I have found the the 9" wide tires drain less power, handle better, and are Cheaper. So I don't think the 12" wide tires would be good for and all around tire. But if you still want them you can mount them on the stock wheels. Call National Wheel & Tires for the best prices.

I had the 12" wide tires on the back of my 300 and switched to the 9.5" tires. The ride is much better and I still have my height for avoiding the ruts, which is my main goal. The wider the tire you run, the more power it takes to overcome the rolling resistance of the mud you are trying to displace or move through. I once saw where an Indy car had most of its drag coming from the tire's large cross section. Some people say you get more floatation with a tire that is 2.5" wider. I don't know how much difference that makes when you are supporting 600, 700 or more pounds. One of the guys I ride with has 26" vamps on a Honda 400 and it turns them fine.
