Default atv shock interchangeability

I just bought a 2000 Honda 450S for bombing around some mountain trails and for the wife/kids to ride when we go camping. I think one of the front shocks needs to be replaced. This is not intended to be a high performance machine and we will never notice the difference high end shocks would make.

My question is - is there a source of adequate quality aftermarket shocks for ATV? Could I buy used? If the eye to eye dimension is the same, would a pair of shocks from another machine work (I wouldn't want two different types of shocks on the same unit)

Yes a pair of used shocked, used the same amount would be fine. Just measure eye to eye and you'll be good. Look on E-bay to see if that model is being parting out.
