MX Tires
#1
What is the best rear tire set up for MX racing? I'm looking at the Holeshot MX. Is there any preference for the 18x11x8 or 18x11x10? What is the major perfromance advantage of one over the other? I have an '88 250R and I am a novice rider.

Hey speedyjim, I prefer to use 18x9.5x8 turf tamers for MX racing. Also, it's a good idea to groove the tires, I find that it helps conering, and gives you a better drive out of the corners. Another thing to consider if you are into MXing is a good set of .190 wheels with beadlocks and rings on the inside. I have used this setup and find it works great. You won't have to worry about blowing a tire off the rim, or bending you rims beyond recognition.

I am currently running the 18x11x8 Turf Tamers on Douglas .190's. They do really well. I need to have them grooved in the near future for better hook up. I am also running MX Grooved radials in the front. They greatly improve handling, and look really trick also. I w0uld fully recommend them. I got mine from Nacs racing, because i heard that they had the best quality tires, and grooving pattern on the market currently. The rumours were right. i would reccomend you buying your tires from them. They also can groove your tamers if needed.
