Bigger tires on the ATP
I've a 2004 Polaris ATP 500 HO. I am thinking what I really need is some bigger meats for this thing. I want all the tire I can put under it but I am concerned about overstressing the driveline since I am thinking about Interco Vampires which are evidently very heavy tires. Power isn't really a problem since I do mostly trailriding and work around the yard I don't care if they compromise the top speed some and there's low range on the tranny for when I really need some grunt and the 500 HO is a fairly powerful engine anyway. What I am worried about is putting too much stress on the driveline components and breaking crap. Clearance wise I believe I can go up 27' tires without rubing, but again I don't want the front diff grenading because of stress. Not too worried about the back since the rear diff looks like it's using about a 7 1/2 or 8 inch ring gear.
My understanding is that the driveline is pretty similar to the 04-041/2 Sportsman 500 HO.
What' been your experience here with regards to big heavy tires and breaking parts.
Thanks

Bigger tires on the ATP
Well first off i think most 27s will rub on ur machine without a lift...so that being said...a 26" will suirt you fine... I ran a 26" zilla on a similar machine and it did very well...Keep in mind an aggeressive tire for yardwork will result in a destroyed lawn...and as always with a bigger tire throttle control is the key to not breakin parts...goodluck!!!

Bigger tires on the ATP
I have an 2005 ATP 500 that I out a set of the 26" PXTs on aluminum wheels off of an 800 I got on E-Bay. I did not notice any real power loss, and in fact it seems like it has more as these radials really hook up better than the 25" 489s that were stock. I have had not clearance issues at all, but then again 26 is not all that big.
I think the bigger tires look better on the ATP.
I may not use the PXT/Wetland next time I need tires, but I plan on staying with 26" radials from now on.
