Man , I just got done busting up my knuckles out in the freezing garage trying to break the bead on some ATV tires the "old fashioned way". OK, needless to say I am interested in a "new" way. Anyone have any of the Commercial Bead Breaker systems or a techniqe to share?

I had a similar problem in breaking the beads, but found a very simple and painless process for removing tires. Drive over them with my truck. This does take two people but is very quick and effortless. One to drive the vehicle, and one to watch the tire and direct the driver. Align the tire under the front tire so the sidewall area is lined up with the edge of the truck tire. Make sure that when you slowly pull forward that the edge of the truck tire rolls directly over the bead area (right between the ATV rim and the sidewall). The key is to go SLOW. Once the truck is directly on the bead if it does not break, just sit there for a few seconds. It usually takes a few tries. If it does not work, back up and have the other person rotate the tire and try another area of the tire. It should work very well. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, dont forget to remove the valve stem from the tire.

JC Whitney sells a car tire bead breaker that goes for about $60. About 3 oe 4 times a year the sale book will have it for $35. It will break down any atv tire. We used to use this at the shop before we had to get a better machine because of mounting street bike tires.

Haha, looks liek your having problems too. I have ordered all types of bead breakers and none of them worked. So i bought one from a dealer, the one from Nacs or anything that looks liek it will work great. I couldnt believe how easily it pulled the tire down and works on all sizes. Buy the one from Nacs Racing. You will be amazed and it is money well spent.

Actually just use a floor jack, and its a one man operation, thats what I do. You have to jack the front of the car where the motor weight is though. The rear will usually not do it. You can be much more precise in your placement this way. Dave

Has anyone tried the cheap bead breaker from JC Whitney, the $20 one with the chain? I'd like to get the $70 one, but it's just not in the budget right now, and I need to get a tire off.

Thanks
