Default BAIL ME OUT

Hi fella's,

Sorry for the distasteful title but, I couldn't resist.

I'm looking help on a project. I'll try to be clear & brief. I want to use a set of 2005 450r shocks on a banshee. They're perfect in every way, except for the rezzie position in relation to the top mounting eye let. I want to cut the eye let off and weld it at 90 deg from it's present position.
Here's what I need to learn:
1. How to take the shock apart
a. how to remove the gas
b. how to remove the spring
c. how to remove the top casting rezzie/mount
d. how to remove the bushing from the eyelet
e. what material is the casting (aluminum, aluminum/ magnesium?) for welders info
2.How to put it back together
a. who locally can replace the gas
b. what kind of gas (nitrogen/mix?)
3. what am I missing and what can I expect

I would like to keep the work to a minimum: example keep oil in tack because shocks only have a couple of hours on them. Keith

Thanks for reading

I am learning the hard way that on forums you can't just ask for answers without explaining your motives. Rightfully us guys have a way/need of socially connecting. 1st, I love wacky projects 2nd, I'm on a low budget, I'm saving to help my grand kids through college. There I've said It I'm 51 and still have the need for white knuckle speed. I'm using yfz a arms so there are 2 options for me: move the eye let to allow the rezzie to pass through the upper a arm or fab the upper a arm to go around the rezzie. I showed the shock to a old time welder he assured me of near 100% on a welding the eye let. Using the 16 1/2 eye to eye 450r shocks gets me very close to factory geometry relieving bump steer.

No, you have to ask short and easy questions.

Try posting in a section that gets more traffic... Like Honda or Yamaha.

I'd give a shock guy a call... I know shock guys exist out there... I use a guy in NY for my Ski-doo snowmobile shocks -- he makes custom shocks as well... I can drop you his contact info if you'd like.

Tks for the comments guys. I have decided to alter the upper a arms instead. Hearing
from some welders on a welding forum they advised not to rely on a weld in such a high stress area.

If you put a "patch" over your welds, or gussets, it will be fine. I've welded my a-arms 5 inches longer and no trouble at all with cracking or breaking.
