Default any help with secondary drive gear bearing

I'm talking about a "04 suzuki ozark" and thinking that these bearings need to be r/r. I can hear a sort of grinding / scraping sound when alot of pressure or torque is applied, like when pulling wheellies or at the bottom of a climb. So I looked around under there and grabbed the drive shaft for play hoping it may have been the univesal joint, its tight, but it seems to be a lot of play up and down and side to side in the section of shaft between the joint and the trans. is this o.k?
