Default What to do incase of diesel?

My grandmother has a 4 wheeler that the neighbor accidentally put diesel in it and ran it around for a bit. They relized it and siphoned out the diesel and put gasoline in it but the motor cant maintain idle without dying and its backfiring alot. The neighbor tried telling her it just needs to be ran for while and it will be fine. Is there anything else that needs to be done?

I'd look at the spark plug, as diesel may have fouled it.

Beyond that you may need to take the carb apart for cleaning.

Many ATV's have a fine filter screen that is attached to the petcock and can be cleaned by removing the petcock from the tank.

Drain the carb and all the fuel lines dry, perhaps even run a little gas through them afterwards. I wonder if there isn't still some diesel in the float.

Exclamation

New plug, flush fuel system/clean carb and be glad the dumb neighbor didn't put gas in your granny's diesel quad!
