Default Yamaha Big bear 350 rear end troubles/compatibility

Hello,

My 95 Yamaha big bear needs a new axle and ring gear. Took the bike to somebody who says they have a whole rear end/axle/hubs, etc, from a 98 big bear that will fit. Kind of contradicts everything I've been reading but this guy seems to have a lot of experience and sure gets a lot of work. I'd hate to visit the dealer with it. Anybody know if this is possible? Is it only the individual components that are incompatible between the years? If he changes the whole rear end will it bolt up and fit the drive shaft? thanks,

T

Here is a good parts site. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse just look up the 95 rear end and compare it to the 98 and see if there the same.

Good chance I think the only major change on the Big Bear was in 93 and they stayed the same for years after that.
