I am thinking of getting PEP triple rate front shocks to replace my broken works performance shocks. Does anyone have any experiance and/or opinions with these shocks? Or suggestions for other shocks in the 600 dollar range. Any info would be really helpful.

i am thinking about getting PEP ZPS Front and rear shocks, from what i hear they are great, i was first going to get limited mass at first but then i decided that eventually i will buy the zps, so i am going 2 go with that settup, i am planning on ordering them from nac's they have the best prices and are really cool guys. i also have a 400ex with lots of mx mods, i just bought a PEP steering stablizer and it is the best investment i have made, it cost 149.00 from nac's

I have 3 quads with PEP ZPS set up for cross country right now, and I must say they work great. I have owned Works, Custom Axis, and Ohlins thru out the years and like the PEP better for initial setup and customer service.
One thing to keep in mind about high tech suspension systems that I would always keep as the first and most important rule:
Always by your shock direct from the manufacture. This will keep any run around from suppliers and totally eliminates the middle man. The only place you can buy PEP shocks direct is from the main PEP office in California or Baldwin Motorsports in Ohio.
Good Luck

xc426--do u race in PA ? I ride d-6

You might be able to find some Elkas in that price range that is what i run on my bike. Pep is just a modified works shock.

You can't go wrong with PEP. I used to race the 4strk Pro-Am class at the Nationals. I tried standard Works, White Power (which I don't think they make anymore), and PEP. The PEPs were by far the best. The PEPs I had when I quit racing are the same as the $600 set that PEP sells now.

By the way, I am now getting back into the sport and looking for a set for my 400ex. I rode a guys ex at my practice track that had the PEP ZPS shocks, and they are fantastic! Just a thought if you can pony up the extra $300 (I think they are $895). I think my decision has been made.

A couple things to consider when buying shocks, weight of the atv, weight of the rider and the function. Triple rate shocks should be ok for your 400, but if you weight over a certain amount then you are just going to bottom out that 3rd spring, and if you are going to do anything but serious racing, I would stick with dual rate springs. Most companies worth their salt should fill you in on this type of info. You will lay down some serious cash for shocks, make sure you get all the info.

The information I provided stems from previous experience and working with a shop that specializes in shock rebuilds.

White Power has recently offered shocks for the 400EX. MX-TECH did the internal valving and spring set up, they are an authorized distibutor. MX-TECH has now a zero preload design. One thing nice is that there is no 3 month wait, yet..... The new MX-TECH website will be up and running on Nov.5th

Thanks, John
