Different tire sizes front and rear
#1
I have a 2002 Lakota 300 and am looking for a little more ground clearence on the rear, stock tires ar 22 inchers....would it hurt to put 24 or 25 inchers on the back and leave the stock 22's on the front. just tired of getting hung up on these PA. rocks.

Just to let you know, my bro has a bigbear and just put 27" on the rear and the fronts are stock. Didnt really make the bike look bad and the handling and performance is KING! He now clears the logs/rocks that he use to get hung up on and the mud....well, we'll just say, i only saw him stuck once yesterday when every other bike was stuck 5-6 times. Pretty amazing that lil 2x4 400 made it through the muck that we went through.
Jonathan
PS: he did try to avoid the "deep" parts that we were getting stuck in. But when you are in a swamp...its all muddy.

my advice to you is to stick with a 22in tire, but buy a tire that is stiffer so you can increase the pressure to give you more clearance.
I put Maxxis sur tracs on my warrior and they are perfect for doing this. If i want the clearance all i have to to is hook them up to the compressor and air them up,
another reason not to go with bigger tires is because you will loose the sporty feel of your quad.
hope this helps

Be aware that going to a larger tire at the rear will result in taller gearing which may not be a problem with a bigger displacement engine but it could be with 300cc. I'm not familiar with your ride and don't know if it is chain or shaft drive. If chain drive, the gearing can be altered, of course.Otherwise, you may find that you've lost considerable low end power.
