My 300 4x4 is making grinding noises when I turn the handlebars and I assume the outer CV's are going. I know we're told that you have to replace the axle when you replace the outer joints, but supposedly Rockford Driveline has just the out joints available for about $70. Does anyone have experience replacing just the outer joints without going with a whole new half-shaft? I really am having a hard time shelling out $155 (minimum) for an aftermarket axle, and well over $200 for OEM.

Thanks,
JC

Just an update FWIW. The CV's appear to be fine. The problem apparently stems from when I changed the front differential fluid. I had drained the old stuff (not knowing how old it was) and replaced it with Slick50 limited slip differential fluid several weeks ago. I just bought a new bottle of Valvoline DuraBlend synthetic, drained and refilled the diff and things seem to be back to normal now. Yay!!! Glad I didn't lay out the bucks for new CV's.
