Default tire sizing question

I have a quad(2002 Kawa Bayou) that has rear tires sized at 22 x 10 x 10. I want more aggressive tires for mud. the closest size I can find in mud tires is 22 x 11 x 9.

first question...Will 22 x 11 x 9 mount and hold air on my present rims??

second question... what does the 22 x 11 x 9 refer to? 22 has to be the tire dia, what is the rest?

orrrrrr, is there a good mud tire out there size 22 x 10 x 10

thanks in Advance, Stan

To answer your first question, no the 22x11.00-9 will not fit on your 10" rims.

Now as to reading tire sizes. Tire sizes are listed as follows Diameter of the tire x Width of the tire - Width of the rim. So a 22x10.00-10 would be 22" tall, 10" wide, and fit on a 10" rim where a 22x11.00-9 would be 22" tall, 11" wide, and fit a 9" rim.

By the way, Dirt Devils, Gators, Lumberjacks, MudBusters and many more are available in 22x11.00-10.

Hope this helps.

Default tire sizing question

Just to make sure I understand this. If I got a set of tires that were 23 x 10 x 10 they would fit on my 22 x 10 x 10 rims with the only difference being the 1" taller tire>

but a 22 x 11 x 10 rim could not mount on my 22 x 10 x 10 rims because the tire is too wide.

is that right?? sorry if I seem thick, just trying to not buy the wrong tire

thanks for the help

Stan

No. Basically you'll need to keep the diameter within an inch or two of stock, width really isn't a big factor (I'm running 25x10.00-12 on 12x6.5 rims) you just need to make sure that your tire is wider than your rim. The measurement that always has to match is the rim, it can't ever be one bit different.

Acceptable replacement diameters for your tires would be along the lines of 22, 23, and possibly (not sure) 24.
Acceptable replacement widths for your tires would be along the lines of 9, 9.5, 10, 11, and 12.
The only acceptable rim measurement is a 10, nothing else will work.

By the way your rim is probably just a 10x7 or 10x7.5, if factory.
