And take the paddles off for a set of knobbies, the sand will be very hard and heavy.

onewiteman-i have been riding on the oregon dunes mostly at florence since 1976 si i can tell you a few things about winter riding there.weather from october to about the end of may can be unpredictable so you should bring the appropriate riding gear as in good quality rain gear and warm clothes. in the winter a lot of the trails are not rideable due to the water on the trails but there is still the open dunes to play on.one very important thing to watch out for in the winter on the oregon dunes is the quicksand like conditions that can develop, you want to watch for the sand that is a darker brown than the rest and stay away from it.i know from first hand experience that the quicksand can just about totally take your machine under if you do not get it out right away.overall riding the oregon dunes in winter is a good way to go especially if you like to avoid the crowds that can be around in the summer so i would say go for it and enjoy.

I say winter is one of the best times to go.
Often the weather is good, AND the dunes are the steepest, and tallest at that time of the year!

If you like challenging riding, and fewer people, go during the winter months!
Just try to pick a weekend when it won't be downpouring!
