4WD with the lowest air pressure in the tires you can get away with, don't ever stop, don't make sharp turns, and make friends with someone driving a 1 ton 4x4 dually so they will pull you out when you do get stuck.

Air down the trailer too! We were going to go this weekend, but have a chance to ride in Bishop/Mammoth, so we picked that instead. Have fun!

you shouldnt have too much of a problem, just keep your speed up. I wouldnt go below 15psi to be safe, dont want to be popping any beads with a trailer. Sean

Air down until you can see that you have a real nice bulge in the tires, you're shooting to get your contact patch about 4x as large as normal. Whatever that pressure is, you're good. 17's have a bead - good choice. 16.5's suck for sand because there's no bead.

I agree that you should air everything down, including the trailer. One of the biggest mistakes people make in the sand is only airing down the rear tires. The other big one is not airing down enough. I can't count the number of people I've pulled out that when I ask if they aired down, they say, "Yeah, I'm running about 25lbs. You might as well not even air down! You need to let out at least half of your regular pressure, I would say closer to 2/3.

Just an idea, bring a compressor to air yourself back up. If you do blow a bead, you can fix it yourself. However, you really don't have to worry about blowing beads as long as you are careful about sharp turns and such. I've only seen a handful of blown beads at Pismo, and never on a tow vehicle that I can recall.

For reference, I air the 33's on my jeep as low as 3 to 5 lbs., and I've never blown a bead. I'm not saying you should get even close to that low, just that you can go lower than you think.

I was out there this weekend and ran 16#'s all the way around truck and trailer. I have a stock GMC HD1500 and a 25' Tahoe with 3 big bikes and an LT 80 with 100 gallons of water to boot and didnt have any problem getting to the back of the camping area. I stopped, backed up, drove in cricles you name it (man it sucks looking for people in the dark!) no problems, could have camped at comp hill if I wanted too.
