Sand Hills Resort is the nicest area, grass and trees, showers (kinda rough but usable), washer/dryer shack, full hookups are available or they offer day use.
their web site is www.sand-dunes.com
beware, the rules are stiff there. they enforce a 10pm quiet time, and will get the law on you if you are being obnoxious. Good for families.
They are right on the sand.
there are a couple others, BLM just made a donation only area near the big dunes, with outside toilets. No grass there, and few trees. also NO Rules about late partying.

The owners at sandhills are rude. They have been rude on the phone with my wife and I refuse to spend a dime with them because of that. I dont mind the rules, actually kind of like them. But they are really in the wrong business. I have heard some real bad things about them.

I have been staying at the desert oasis camp ground this past summer and they are very nice and accomodating. There is no grass, but they have full hookups and it is just a short ride down a sand trail to the dunes.

Batoutahell is correct. Don't stay at Mean Gene's. He is a pain in the ****. Desert Oasis is closer to the bigger dunes and the people that run the campground are very accomodating. Good folks. Easy to get to and no deep sand to drive through.

Here is a link to their site. I would call ahead and make reservations if you want hookups. I think they have about 30 full hookup sites. Of course the time of year you are going you might not need the reservations.

Desert Oasis also just got their showers done, real nice new clean units with a sink and toilet all in one private room. The showers at Mean Gene's would make an Auschwitz Commandant blush.

They have what they call a dry camp area that's 10 bucks a night, and you can use the showers. The showers are $2 coin-op. Shower with a friend! Call them up and they'll give you the whole story.
