I finally am going to Oregon dunes and was wondering where to stay, I have an rv and was hoping to get a place that has electricity and dune access, I have heard of a state park that has electricity and is suppose to be real nice. I know of the KOA but not sure what it is like. Any info would be much appreciated.

Ok, here's what I know. I was down to the Coos Bay/North Bend dunes last weekend. These are the best dunes with the most variety - Winchester and Florence have some good stuff, too, but don't have anything over Coos Bay/North Bend. The Horsfall campground at the south end of the Coos Bay dunes is basically just a big gravel parking lot and it gets crammed - also, you have to have a reservation for it, unless a cancellation occurs. There is also a parking lot at the Horsfall beach that can be camped in, but it is just a parking lot and pretty primitive and very close to the ocean. Spinreel campground is at the north end of the Coos Bay dunes and is supposed to be nice, but also takes reservations and is usually full. We camped at the KOA in Hauser, which I think you mentioned. It was great - just have to ride a .6 mile gravel/sand road out to the dunes (no big deal). The KOA has great facilities and nice people. I really liked that it is kind of in the middle of the section of dunes running from Horsfall up to Spinreel allowing you to have some great choices every time you go out. Have a great time!!!

the casino is by the nothbend coosbay dunes if you go to florence honeyman is a real nice place to stay, it has the things you want.

 

ya, you got electricity, really nice people for nabors(except for sandman..lol) rill nice park, BUT MAKE RESERVATIONS OR YOU WILL NOT GET A SPOT!!!

We like Jesse Honeyman State Park. During the off season you can ride from your camp spot to the dunes and they have hook ups and a waste dump. Driftwood is another place . I don't think it has hookups. It requires reservations as well. You can ride to the dunes from your camp site.

 

Yeah, the casino is in North Bend - along the highway. Some other stuff to do is go to Charleston and check out the marina, jetty, beaches, down to Shore Acres park to climb on the cliffs - oh and don't forget to get a Garbage Grinder at Luigi's in Empire on the way to Charleston, extra onions. Have a blast!!!

 

My two cents....

I've camped down at the dunes a number of times.

Honeyman (Florence) - This is a fantastic state park to stay at. The loop at the end of the park is the only one with Dune Access - which is open only in the off season. The loop is the worst one to stay in and I would avoid it, except if you are actually staying the in the off season to ride. There were no hook-ups that I could see. During the summer, the access road is blocked off at both ends, but you can still walk it. I've ridden the dunes, parked the bikes at the dunes side of the access road, walked the 1/8th mile to camp, changed riders and walked back.

KOA - This has full hookups (including cable). It's definitely and RV park and is mostly just gravel. Not the most scenic place to stay. If you can get an outside spot, then you won't have to stare at your neighbors as much. Dune access is via a few roads to the main entrance (Hauser road). This is basically in the middle of the dunes area - a very long and whooped out road to the beach (my legs are tired just thinking about it [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]. The first riding area immediately as you enter is a strip that you can ride all the way to Horsfal campground. Or, continue down Hauser road to get access to the rest of the dunes and the beach. You can ride all the way north (or south) and back on a tank of gas. Bonus - There are also at least 3 different places you can rent ATVs here, so you can have friends visit and go for a ride with you.

Horsfall - this campground is paved (not gravel) and has no hookups. If you get an outside site you'll have an area for your campfire and a table. This is also a good spot to stay, as you're literally camping right at the dunes - no long access roads to navigate. It's also the noisiest, until riding stops in the evening. To gain access to the beach, you have to ride all the way down to Hauser road - then you'll be running low on fuel, so can't play around too much before turning around. There is not trail between the horsfall camping area and the day use area (unless you ride all the way to Hauser rd.

I would recommend riding Winchester Bay while you are at the Oregon Dunes. There is a huge RV park, and then there is Windy Cove and another RV park that are good too. Even if you don't stay up there, atleast ride it.

 

Does honeyman have a website or is some info on a website that I can look at. Going to be there halloween weekend and I want to stay there. Anyone else going?
