I'm going to glamis this weekend riding my cr500 quad for the first time any suggestions on gearing. Please dont reply if you dont know your a$$ from a hole in the ground.

I know it's a little late for your weekend, but look here:
500R gearing - If I remember correctly, this is using 1992 numbers - the year of the engine does matter since gearing changed at least once over the years.

12/39 is what you would run on a stock 250r try a 14/37 , 14/36 my trike pulls that hard with a 344

 

Keep in mind that a CR500s internal gearing is taller than a 250R so comparing sprocket sizes to a 250R is not apples to apples.

12 39 works the best for shooting the hills at glamis. i started out with 14 39 and was way to tall,hardly could start off without stalling.

 

hows it run with 500 does it vibrate as bad as everyone says

 

And how does it run against those much hated Banshees.

 

It does vibe alot but does not bug me at all. I've had a few probs but nothing big.yes it beats alot of banshees but not the ones on meth or with big bore cilinders and drag pipes.they only beat me by a coulple bike lenghs. the thing that gets me is the bikes that do beat me will only race on a perfectly flat part of the hill.when i'm racing through the whoops i well i havent been beat yet, no one evean comes close.I can keep ramblig but nobody likes a bragger
