This is really a nice place to learn stuff about sand setup. Anyone know of a similar forum for traditional two wheel bikes?

I have the basic questions about paddle tires to go through again.

(In case anyone else is into both, here it is: what is the optimum tire / wheel combo for riding sand on a Suzuki DR-400?) 18" or 19" wheel, 8 or 10 paddle tire? brand? gearing?. Thanks in advance.)

Have you looked at dirtrider.net?

I don't know if they have the info you want, but might be worth a look.

All the above sites are good ones to take a look at. I might also suggest www.allthingsmoto.com as there are a ton of dirtbikers over there as well. Many of which ride at the dunes.

I go to ktmtalk and thumpertalk, ktmtalk has more info on ktm's than you could ever need. IMO.
As for your paddle tire question, I have used 8 paddle tires on 250's and they work well. I would think that would be good for a 400 thumper too. I use a 10 paddle tire on my cr500 but it has plenty of power to pull it. As a example I have a 6 paddle tire for my yz80. The more power the more paddles needed. I would buy what ever size, 18" 0r 19", that your bike has now. I used to have my paddle tires made special but now you can get them off the shelf from cheng shin I think. I will look at one when I get home tonite to be sure.
