yeah, you'll be fine. paddle tires arent mandatory, any bike does fine without em, really. i rode my honda recon, my dads polaris magnum 325, my blaster, my dads rappy, and my banshee at sand lake without paddles and they all did great. I was actually really suprised at how well they did without paddles. With hig-perf bikes like the Z and DVX you shouldnt have any problems. (the polaris will be fine too, just not quite as well off as the others) you might notice that paddles would help if you try a dune thats a little too steep, but for most situations youll be just fine.

Yes you can ride the sand without them. But if they have large steep hills your going to want some. Paddles make a big difference in the sand.

Just remember, momentum and low pressure are your friends. You will do fine.

I would say it's dependent on the area you ride in, if it's at all like Glamis and you get out in to areas where this is no flat sand, meaning that it's all bowls and steep hills. your screwed with out paddles, if you get down in the bottom of a hole you will never get out. But if it's like your first time and ur just messin with buds I would buy any untill you get serious like dragin and stuff.
Good luck

You can go anywhere that you have the nerve to do. The steep hills are your worst enemy. As far as riding the dunes or bowls it will do just fine. Just keep the throtle going and low air pressure. If i can dune with a stock 250 polaris without paddles than you will do just fine. Actually you will have more fun without the paddles because you can slide the back end around alot easier. You just won't be winning any races. Go and have fun!

Here how I view it. You don't need paddles. But if you are making a special vacation trip or long distance trip and are planning on staying several days, it's worth the money to get paddles and make your time well spent. You will have a better time and spend less time getting unstuck. You will have more fun with paddles. Just a note. I get up more hills in 2 wheel drive with paddles than I ever did in 4x4 with out paddles on my Scrambler.
