Need some info? St. Anthony
#1
We are leaving from Minnesota and going to ride in St. Anthony over Memorial Day weekend. We were wondering what the weather is usually like that weekend. Also where the best place is to pitch a tent. We like to have a good time and BS with other riders. Thanks for the info!!!

It usually is pretty good weather for Memorial, but you might have a couple of thundershowers blow through. The sand is so good you won't notice the weather. You can pitch a tent at the BLM campground at Egin lake, but it will assuredly be full of campers although right behind the camper area there is a tent-only area fenced off you might be able to squeeze into. Or you can go to the dry camp at Desert Oasis which will also have a ton of people but there will be room to throw up a tent for about 10 bucks a night. Both these areas are fairly close to the "real" dunes which start at BLM camp and go west. Over on the east side of the dunes many people pitch tents where you can pull right off the road up towards Sandhills Resort (Mean Gene's) so that's also an option. Check dunereview.com and there's lots of pictures of these places I talked about. What are your rigs I'll look for you. The Shady Rascal campground will be probably at the Desert Oasis dry camp area look at my pix you'll see our rig. Stop in if you can.

there will be about 6 of us arriving in a green suburban with minnesota plates and a 32ft. enclosed trailer. We will have a DS650, Warrior, Blaster and a sportsman or two in our party. Thanks for the Info it is really helpful.

I'll be looking for you. I just remembered, at the Desert Oasis they were putting up showers last year so tenting it is not as miserable. They are coin-op units and looked like they were pretty decent (WAY better than Mean Gene's deplorable setup.

I'm with shadyrascal, dont camp at sand hills cause there some grumpy peeps.
just wait till about 12:00 midnight and go frlyin by there camp ground cause you can't ride past like 8:00 there. and then get the h#ll outta there.

when your ridin watch out for the witch's eye's.
my dad dropped in on a witch's eye and his friend and my step brother followed (I saw the rocks at the bottom and didn't follow). my dad was on his banshee and had enough power to turn around and go back, my step brother was on his blaster and couldn't turn around and his rear brakes didn't work so he hit his front brakes (stupid move) and went end over end and stopped right before the rocks. my dads friend was on an lt 250 and it was his first time on a quad but had several dirt bikes in the past, saw the rocks and saw a spot were they were slanted like a small jump and aimed for that spot and hit it and flew like 20 ft. (remember this was his first time on a quad) and made it safe. every body was ok but my step brother had sand every were, and I mean every were.
(and the moral of the story is, watch out for witch's eye's.)
true story, no bullsh!t.
if you camp buy the lake you prolly wont have to worry about that though!!!

Memorial day is great! A very busy weekend however! You'll see some high $$ toy's that weekend. The weather? Expect just about anything, but usually it's really nice.. not too hot, not too cold.
Mean Gene's place sucks, but it's the best for tent camping, as they have grass and shade trees, showers, etc. Just no riff-raff.
I'll be there for a week...
