Do I really need paddles?

we are going to St. Anthony's in July for 5 days and I have a Predator with stock Maxxis Razr's. Has anyone tried these tire in sand and how do they do? Can I have fun on the dunes with these tires or do I really need paddles - Can anyone help? Thanks.

at winchester last weekend i had a new pred following me around. He did ok. He waited for me at the bottom of most hills
There was also another pred with haulers and he went everywhere. It's a whole different exp. with paddles

St. A's isn't winchester bay, glamis, or any of the others. It is by far the most vertical sand box in the country. Without paddles, and good paddles at that, choke cherry is out, devils dune is out, and the bowls will swallow you up. In the rolling hills you'll be ok, but paddles are not an option at ST. A's! If you can't get some good ones, you'll still be better off with cheaper ones.

I'll second that one.... The sand at St. A's is very dry and SOFT... Hillclimbing is out...
Unless you get lucky enough for a serious rainstorm... then knobbies do fine on wet sand.
If your driving all the way from B.C. it'd be worth the investment for some decent tires... My $.02

Ive rode with one guy in glamis. he was on a banshee with stock knobbies. he had absolutly know problem with any hill. but he was a very very good rider. on a 4-stroke I would reconmend paddles because of the rpm range.

These guys are right. We just spent a week at st anthonies and the first couple days was dry and paddles were mandatory. Then it rained and a stock 400ex could go anywhere with bald tires in the wet sand.
