This is so true.It might look nice and flat for a long way. There may be a 3 or 4 foot drop off out there you won't see until you're going off it.This can be extremely dangerous.Check for this everyday.Sand will change and just because it's not there one day doesn't mean it won't show up later.
I have also rode up to the top of a big hill, and it was nearly straight down on the other side.
Good advice Dunedog.

i went down to little sahara last year. It was AWESOME! but one thing you should always do, is wear a helmet. the first time i went through the gates, we got in for free, this was good for us but it was bad because we heard that an ambulance was comin behind us to pick up a dead body, apparently he was flyin around and wasnt wearin a helmet, and got in a wreck. more advice would be to look for flags when you are comin over the dunes. thats why they make them.also, when we stopped at a dune to do some jumpin, we had one guy up at the top so he can see whats on the other side. trust me i saw a really bad wreck on the internet. more advice, they wont let you in at nite if you dont have, 1. working headlights(of course)2.working tailights. my friend didnt have a taillight and the gate person let him put a lite stick on the back. oh yeah if you dont want to get seperated, tape a lite stick (preferably the same color as your group) to the top of your flag whip. this worked out great
watch out when you start goin through some of the woods if you go left out of the south gate, cause they have trees at the bottom of a 10-20 feet hole! it would be hard to get out of.
and when you get hot, you can ride into waynoka for icecream

-Another piece of advice is to not ride alone.Especially at night.
You don't want to get hurt out there and "hope" your friends will come looking for you.
-Always watch for other riders. One year I saw a couple of big drag banshees racing and a kid pulled right out in front of them. They split. One going on each side of the kid. That could have been horrible.

The dunes can be extremely fun,but you do need to be careful.

Also,a set of regular tires will be ok,but I really like to use paddle tires.
They help get up the hills.
