LT 250 R - How does it compare??
I had an 87 LT250 for 15 years, rode it at the big dunes the whole time. You'll have a ball with it. Not as fast as the 450's but not a dog either. A decent running LT will run away from a 400EX or Z400. Don't worry about doing a lot of stuff to try and make it faster, just go enjoy it. Got some pix on my page still of the old LT.

If you want to get to the 450R class of power, you're looking at some more drastic porting, big carb like 39mm, and lots of compression say in the 200 psi range with the accompanying fuel, and getting everything just right. My LT was an 87 (big intake year) with mild porting, 39PWK, 170 psi compression, reeds, Paul Turner pipe, .080 over Wiseco piston, sand skate II paddles, and my YFZ would eat it for lunch (which is precisely why I bought a YFZ).
