I had an 87 LT250 for 15 years, rode it at the big dunes the whole time. You'll have a ball with it. Not as fast as the 450's but not a dog either. A decent running LT will run away from a 400EX or Z400. Don't worry about doing a lot of stuff to try and make it faster, just go enjoy it. Got some pix on my page still of the old LT.

Not as fast as the 450's huh? what will it take to run them down?? I have a big bore kit, LRD pipe and silencer, uni filter, port and polish intake, 36mm mikuni Dslide carb, hot rod and stroker crank, 12 tooth front sprocket with a 40 tooth rear, its a 87 lt also

If you want to get to the 450R class of power, you're looking at some more drastic porting, big carb like 39mm, and lots of compression say in the 200 psi range with the accompanying fuel, and getting everything just right. My LT was an 87 (big intake year) with mild porting, 39PWK, 170 psi compression, reeds, Paul Turner pipe, .080 over Wiseco piston, sand skate II paddles, and my YFZ would eat it for lunch (which is precisely why I bought a YFZ).

Pretty much stock, just yank the baffle out and the LT will never catch it.

you will have a good time with it. watch your chains on those though, they like to brake and then put a hole in your block. (ive seen this happen to 3 different people)
