i was wondering if anybody was planning on going to the little sahara state park in waynoka, oklahoma during that snake hunt thing. i heard and seen pics that this weekend is just about the busiest weekend all year. somebody correct me if im wrong but isn't it the weekend after easter?

You can go to www.waynoka.com to find out more about the "Snake Hunt". And..YES..It draws a crowd. And is the weekend after Easter.( 107 more days ). Last year we were there on the Wednesday prior to the Snake Hunt weekend and all the prime camping sites were gone. Many people take that whole week as their vacation. By Friday people were parked along the roads surrounding the park. If you like a crowd this is the time to go. Lots of activities in town and if you want to buy some snake meat it will cost you $10.00 per pound. I'll take a hamburger at the Oasis Restaurant, which is the best place to eat. I am hoping to go myself. I am planning on going down this Saturday also, looks like a break in the weather.

 

We are planning either this or next month, not sure yet but will bring a trail with us!

 

I will be there too. Wouldn't miss it for anything. It is the best time to go out there. There are lots of drag races. If you are going to stay out there you have to get there at least a week in advance for a camp site. There are no hotel vacancies there. The closest place to stay is in alva. It's about 30 minutes from waynoka. You can rent a hotel room there for about 30 bucks a night and it's not crowded at all. Can't wait to go.

 

If you are going to get a Motel in Waynoka or Alva you best do it now. The hunters are also looking for rooms at the same time.

It does not make any difference who you call as both Motels are owned by the same person. Little Sahara Motel is the best as it is across the street from Jim's ATV. A great place to buy and a great place to visit. They have the best flags available and they are guaranteed. Alva and Woodward are the two closest towns if Waynoka is already booked. Alva is 26 miles away and Woodward is aroind 30 miles away.

 

well, i plan on being there like monday, so i'll camp out in the park in our motorhome. i can't wait till then, i am rebuilding and doing a bunch of other stuff to my banshee now just mainly for that weekend.see ya there

Go to www.waynoka.com and surf the site for information on the snake hunt. The web site will show what it is all about. Basically there are lots of rattle snakes in the surrounding area ( never saw one in the dunes ) and they thin out the population and make a festival out of it.
