With Silver Lake ALEDEDLY starting noise restrictions to 92 db he is worried that he may have to make a quick pipe/map swap to get into the park. I guess we will see.

Has anyone herd if that is really happening and is it for sure 92db??

If so, is it 92db's at an idle or at some other rev point??

It is 94dbs at 3500rpms. They give you 2-5% leway. They may not be checking at the gate, but you can bet your *** that they will be stopping people in the dunes.

Alright fella's I have a situation that I need some of your opinions about. I am from Ohio and have been riding quads for years. I have ridden at several state parks, raced a little motocross, but mostly play riding. But, above all my favorite place to ride is of course Silver Lake State Park.

Now, here is my situation that I have. I currently have a FMF Powercore IV slip-on pipe on my 400ex. From what I have read in Dirt Wheels magazine, the pipe that I have puts out I believe 100dB's. However, it does have a screen-type U.S.F.S approved spark arrester. I know that the new law taking place this year at Silver Lake is a maximum dB limit of 94dB's. My question is....do you guys think that I will be screwed do to the fact that my pipe is 6db's over the legal limit? Do you think that rangers are seriously going to check everyone and bust every machine with an aftermarket exhaust?

See, last summer I made it up to Silver Lake twice. I remember as you trailer your vehicles into the parking lot that there was a sign posted about the new law going into effect starting in 2002. I personally questioned one of the DNR people and told them my situation and explained to them that I have a U.S.F.S. approved spark arrester. They acted like I wouldn't have any problem with the new law. From what they told me, this law is to help stop people who ride in the park without spark arresters.

Anyway, and help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if it was me and i was traveling that far to go to silver lake, id take my stock silencer (if i had it), who wants to drive that far just to get an hour of riding time in and then have to leave?

its kind of a crappy deal, but if it helps keep it open, im all for it

Do you know how they check the db rating? I almost bought a sound meter that reads db' up 140 at Radio Shack. Do they use a similar device to check?? Also, do they hold check it at idle or do you have to rev it up to a certain level??
