GregV I got a little tach/kour meter from a Yamaha dealer for about $50.00. Works out great for testing and tracking hours for service.

Since you plan to use your ORV at Silver Lake State Park, there is some additional information that may be useful to you.

At this time, there is a proposed Land Use Order of the Director that would regulate sound testing for the scramble area at the park. That Order is not final yet, but the proposed version calls for the use of two separate test procedures. The procedures are developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The test procedure proposed for motorcycles and ATVs is the same procedure that is in the ORV law, which is SAE J1287. There is a separate proposed procedure for all other ATVs, which is SAE J1169.

Once the Order has been implemented, you will be able to get additional information from the Parks & Recreation Bureau of the DNR, or from Silver Lake State Park. They will probably have a final Order in March or April.

I have been hearing about a 20" rule or something like that. I purchased a db meter and my pipe is equipt with a spark arrester. I want to make sure that I won't have any problem getting out on the Dunes this summer. I have a 4 1/2 hour drive. I usually go there 3 to 4 times a year. I hope that last year won't be last, there isn't anything comparable around at all.

Thanks

I drive about 10 to 11 hours...so it would be a bummer not to get in. On my 250R I have plenty of options..but the 400R uses an ESR centermount pipe. commie bastids, heh.

I seem to miss these conversations until there about done, but i'll add my 2 sense. I duned SL for 3 years and everyone of those years i've gone the first week in april. Theres never a DNR officer even there. Personnally i think there going to crack down on the big holidays and weekends and let the people play on the weekdays, i hope i'm right but nothing would surprise me anymore.

Oregon has a 93db limit on the dunes. I thought that was restrictive! 92db, a stock Raptor just squeaks by. No chance whatsoever for any aftermarket pipe to be legal.
