Pismo Dunes access-High Tide
#3
It would depend on the tide height and your vehicle. On Memorial day @ high tide (6' per chart) only resulted in the creek being about 1-1/2' deep, piece of cake. If you get there at high tide sit & watch a couple vehicles cross so you can see the depth of the water. Worst case if it's deep (doubt it) you'll have to wait a 2-3 hours till it goes out.

Thanks, we went there yesterdauy for a practice run. I have a 3/4 ton Dodge truck 2 wheel drive. Went for a test run cause I want to go there next weekend a take a travel trailer. We arrived at 9:45am High tide was in full swing at 9:54am 3 1/2 feet. The creek was but a trickle, no problems. We left at 7:30pm and high tide was again a question. High tide in full swing at 9:06pm at 5 1/2 feet. The creek had a tad bit more water in it and the tide was making it up to the area we crossed at. Again no problems. I will however choose not to take the travel trailer next weekend. I parked just the otherside of marker #2 and felt fortunate to get there. Parked as far away from the ocean as I could without getting stuck.

bad idea goin across there w/ a 2wd truck at high tide. do what you want, but i have literally WATCHED that creek take a 4x4 blazer out to sea, not a pretty sight, everyone was ok, though.
we always call ARNIES (the company that pulls you out when you get stuck) to see how many people have gotten stuck that day , and also ask them when low tide is. if it means leaving home at 5 am then, so be it.

Pismoguy,
Good advice and duley noted. However, I could **** more than what water was in this stream at the time we got there in the morning. The only reason there was more water when we left was because the high tide was higher than the mornings high tide. As you know, Southern Californias rain fall was pitiful and I doubt they will let much water out of the dam that feeds that stream this year. I'd bet the flow of this creek will be small most of the time. JMO

well...i kinda forgot that there wont be much water this time of year.....
i went over spring break this year, and like you said, there was barely any water, mabey 3 inches. but i went in december for christmas vacation and it was more than half way up the tires.
it just depends on when you go "food for thought", i guess.

PismoGuy400: wshrdskin is coming from So. Cal so he exits the freeway before Cuesta Grade. (I'm guessing) He probably gets off at Grand Avenue and shoots down. As far as the Grade, It's nastier going home(north side) than it is getting there(south). It's pretty darn narrow on the north bound side. I pull a 35' 5th wheel trailer with a dually and its really tight when somebody with another trailer or a wide vehicle wants to pass by me.
