Default Front Sand Tires: Opinions Requested

I currently have a set of GBC Dunetrackers, but I've stopped using them due to poor braking performance. I'm wondering if the Shark Fins would work better? I met a guy at the dunes who had them and said they do work a lot better in that regard.

Also, how much air pressure do you run in these tires? I had mine at 9 psi and they were VERY harsh. When I switched back to my Maxxis Razr Front Pros which were at 4 psi, it rode a lot better.

Thanks!

Rob

I run 5 psi in my dune trackers. I guess I really never worry about using the front brakes in the sand. Just slam your rear brakes on, and those paddles will stop you just fine.

If the sand is really soft (dry) I will run my dune trackers at 3.5 lbs. Makes a world of difference.

Snarfblat, I run the same tires and they seem OK for braking. I never checked the pressure but I keep it a little on the low side - maybe 3 to 4 PSI since they are a little hard riding. They are kind of wide compared to other fronts so maybe that has something to do with it???

The temp. effects tire pressure so much its unreal.
In CA. I'd start with 3.5psi at 7:00am and by 9 am they would be 8-9psi. lower to 6psi and at nite fall they would be as low as 2psi.
Use whatever works, but to low of pressure might cause bead to break loose and tire go flat.

576 miles in 6 days at Glamis

650 P stock tires
400 Scrambler paddles
440 Explorer paddles the 650 P would outrun both in sand without any problem!!
and my neighbors 250R with paddles at OK.
