Last year I was fishing and had a monster Northern Pike on. He was bending my Ugly Stick medium weight rod in two. I fought him into the side of the boat and his head was humungous. As I reached with the net to grab him he did a quick side to side head slash and cut the line. It was then that I remembered to put on the steel leader. UGGGHHHH. Funny thing happened later that day. I pulled in a 9 inch smallmouth bass and as I was taking out my lure to let him go a little bluegill minnow jumped out of its mouth onto my hand. He must have just got swallowed. I let both go to continue their competition. I caught a 33" Northern Pike on Lake Hortonia, VT while I was waiting for everyone to come get in the boat to go out and troll. Second cast it hit my purple Rooster Tail. In the excitement I thought I could hook his lower lip by reaching over its teeth. I was wrong. Got 4 lacerations on both sides of my thumb. Sealed up really well with a bandage. I went into the general store on the lake and they had a 40" or so up on the wall. When the owner saw me admiring the trophy and my bandaged thumb I could tell he was wondering so I told him what I did. He said, "you'd fit in up here." Knowing I was going to be the brunt of his joke I asked, "why is that?" He said, "we're not only slow, we're stupid too." They had a good laugh. I did too. My son caught a 29" Northern on Lake Dunmore in VT.

a few years ago I was out in my brothers boat and was jigging for crappies in a shallow weedbed right next to a dropoff using 6 pound test and a crappy minnow all of a sudden it took off I set the drag real loose and kept playing it about 30 minutes later I got it to the boat it was a huge northern (in minnesota they have seasons and northerns were closed at that time) when I reached down to unhook it the line snapped on the bottom of the boat. the width was about 4-5 inches and the length was about 45 inches. I had several boats fishing around me they all pulled up anchor and came closer telling me they havent seen a northern that big in a long time.

I've got a couple piggy pigs in my day. I'm a huge fisherman, it's pretty much all I do other than ride!
