Default Which type of helemt - full face or off-road?

I am trying to figure out why/if people prefer an off-road/motocross style helmet to a full face helmet.

Any thoughts?

I purchased a full face model that would accept a factory breath box for use during the winter months. However, I have yet to see anyone else wearing a full face helmet on a quad.

So why the off-road helmet? It seems that it would allow in a lot more junk than a full face. So what am I missing, why does everyone prefer them?

Thanks!

The advantages of a MX helmet are the light wieght and the air flow. It keeps you a whole lot cooler than a full face street helmet. And having the light wieght while your flying down trails or going through a nice woop section is very nice, trust me your neck thanks you fo it in the morning. Plus it looks cooler And if you worried about getting your face dirty your in the wrong sport, haha.

The reason I prefer an open face is being able to wear goggles. Even though I wear glasses so I have to get the OTG ones. They seem to keep a whole lot more dust out of your eyes. I started with an old snowmobile helmet and tried goggles with it when I saw others not futzing with their eyes during rides. Did not go together at all. So bought an open face & much prefer that combo.

Yeah MX helmets are much MUCH lighter and cooler than a street bike lid. You work a lot harder when you are riding off-road as compared to on-road so it is easy to get overheated while riding in dirt.

The light weight makes sense. Thanks!

What about for winter riding? Do you like the full face for that or do you have some secrets for keeping your face from freezing with an MX helmet?

In the winter I use my snowmobile helmet as there is no where near as much dust & it covers the whole face.

The dust is the only reason for me. I prefer the full face but it is terrible for the dust. I dislike the MX helmets as they grab more air and put more strain on my neck than a full face due to aerodynamics but that dust thing.

I have often wondered why they don't make a pull down visor for MX helmets. I hate the goggles.
