Default 98 Polairs sport man 500 no start

My 500 will crank over with the starter motor, but will not start, has fuel and spark, if I use the pull starter, the bike will run. After it has been running and warmed up, if you turn it off, it will start with the starter motor. if I leve it for 2 or 3 days, I have to use the manual stater angen.

Battery starting to die maybe.

When my ATV would start with a pull but not the electric start,it turned out to be dirt and rust on the face of the pulse coil, next to the fly wheel. I cleaned it and re gaped it to the flywheel and the electric start started the motor once again.
Dirt ,water and crap gets to the pluse coil, when it gets pass the rope hole of the recoil cover.

The trigger, pulse or pickup coil (what ever you call it),has a magnetic face and picks up metal filings inside the recoil cover from gods knows what.

hello ratsnest. my name is cadwelladams@aol.com. charge the battery. check voltage at bat. terminals with a volt meter. should read 12.3 to 13.5. when it does crank. and read volts while it is running. should read anywhere from 12.5 to 14.00 with lights on. if it does not. you have a voltage problem. then replace the regulator. if you face the atv, it will be on the rt. sitting on it, it will be on the left. look past the radiator screen u will see it. stator&pickup is not the problem.if it does read positive voltage i suggest you take a very clear look at your battery. I promise because I know. feel free to call 919-661-7034 or 919-710-2650 i can help. listen to me and you've got it.

Your stator can pick up rust and metal shaving on each coil. I think there's 8 on that stator and all the heads can and will rust up. I changed mine and was surprised it had junk stuck to it. Test your coil too. Every electrical part is under a $100 on Ebay. It adds up though.

He was in his 50s when he started this thread and he's in his 60s now. During the 8 years in between I'm willing to bet he either got it fixed or else gave up on it. But since he never posted anytime during those 8 years you never know.
