The OP is riding a DS650X, a sport quad. True riding boots offer much better crash protection than work boots, and also heat protection from hot exhaust pipes, engines, etc. For what it is worth, I used AStars Tech 5 with mx soles for years. I was surprised at the amount of traction you can still get in mud/snow with those soles. I would still recommend the atv soles, but if you are more into jumping and racing around a higher quality boot could be a better choice.

Construction boots offer no ankle protection whatsoever! If you have ever ran over your ankle with a sport quad you know the kinda damage that they can do. It does not matter if you ride with a $200.00 set of bike boots or a $1500.00 set it is better than messing up your ankle/foot and a AT boot works that much better if you get stuck in the mud!

Great choice! I love Alpine Stars, may be going back to them this year if I have enough $$ left after the quad gets rebuilt.

I wear a pair of "Shift" high boots for my quad. It throws lots of rocks off the front tires and about the third time I took a rather large rock into my shin I realized the boots just paid for themselves

I've ridden for years with my MX boots. (alpinestars). Recently though, I switched to a half boot style and am very glad I did. For one, I don't get the moon boot syndrome that you get with full boots. The leather is a little more pliable, but they have the armor where you need it on the ankle and toe. Plus I have a walking sole with lugs on it for traction. Much better deal when walking in mud. I shattered my ankle a few years back and have a lot of steel plates and 14 screws holding it all together. I can't take the full boot's stiffness and pressure on the leg any more so the half boot is a Godsend. The only drawback is I had to change my riding pants from MX style to over the boot style.... like that was a problem... Mrs DB bought it anyway so I am sticking to my story...
