Truck bed size ?
#1
Thinking of buying a Honda Recon 250,This is going to be a loaner atv for the kids that do not have one. What size truck bed will it fit in ? I live in Southern CA. Long bed trucks are hard to find. Most trucks that I see have a 6ft 5 inch bed,Will it fit with the tail gate up?
I use a small trailor to tow my Honda rancher 420.

Man Vans..rofl... (6 ft beds)
Yea it should with the gate down...I have a full size bed with a 95 sportsman and there is a good 2 feet left without the gate on...far as how wide? ...I would say it would be tight with a baby truck(mid size)
Just a tip when you ride it on the bed just remember the front nose can go though the back window if you dont stop in time....Yes I watch someone do that already...I have a block of wood from an old RR tie in the bed pushed up to the front just in case

I have a friend whose son rides a Recon. He has a 6.5' bed and a toolbox mounted in front. The Recon still fits in with the tailgate up. I can fit a fullsize Sportsman in my 6.5' bed and barely shut the tailgate so the Recon should be fine.

I still laugh about the Chevy (and most other makes) quad cab we had. Of course they only put a 5.5 bed on them so the gate wouldn't close. My lowly Ranger has a full 6 and I can load the quad and slide the ramps under it and close the gate.

Depends on tire width -V- the length of the quad, also consider how you are going to load it and how much stuff you want to put into the bed with it. I have an 09 Ford Ranger Extended cab that has both back doors that open allowing access to the cab behind the seats. We store all the riding gear behind the seats and the wife's LTZ250 fits into the bed between the fender wells with room left over for the fuel cans and the ramps folded up and stored under the quad along with our rear flags and the tail gate goes up just fine. On the other hand My LTR450 front tires are wider than the width of the bed of my Ranger so it is carried on a 4x8 trailer and it takes the whole trailer up. You need to measure the tire width (front tires) and then go from there making sure you allow for extra space for tire modifications and such.
Good luck in your quest for a toy hauler that not only hauls everything but everyone likes it and is comfy to ride in after a long day riding.

Other than needing a good payload rating (wet firewood), the other must with me is at least a 6.5' bed. I had a Nissan Titan Crew Cab on order and it came with a 7'3" bed. That would hold almost all fullsize machines other than 2-ups with the tailgate up. My wife lost her job 2 days before I was going to pick it up. We'll see. Things are slowly starting to get better here. Again, the Recon will fit in the 6.5 bed with no problem. It should even fit in the 5.5 beds that are out there now.
