Default Anyone attempt to make your own ATV Trax system?

I have been looking at some of the ATV Trax systems online, but at 3K + that is a bit pricey for me. Anyone know of a cheaper alternative, or attempt to make their own out of track material, etc.?

I am looking for something that will give me traction in deep snow instead of getting stuck all the time while I am plowing. Not really into chains...

A used sled is much cheaper then atv tracks up here. I bought this 1998 500 ski-doo long track two up touring, sled with electric start, hand, thumb warmers and reverse for $1800 Canadian 4 winters ago. No good for plowing though.LOL

Used ATV tracks go for $2500 Used.

TLC -

Yeah, I used to have a couple of Ski-Doo sleds - loved them! Unfortunately, here in Southeast Pennsylvania we haven't been getting enough snow over the past decade to warrant owning them, so I eventually sold them.

hayesjo -

I contacted that company. They are a bit cheaper than the trax systems that replace the wheels, but still a bit more than I was hoping for. Think I will hold off for now. Interesting concept though.

I would actually like to construct my own, if I could get the material & do it at a reasonable cost.

Here is the email I received from them.

Thank you for your interest in our products.

The 4our Paw comes with military grade carbon fiber wheels utilizing a 6 ply high pressure trailer tire with inter tube. Grouser and guide are made with an extremely high wear resistant urethane alloy. The product is designed to take on the max payload of the vehicle without sacrificing stability. The 4our Paw can be operated in all conditions, but limited to heavy snow.

Pricing for a set of 4 Paws for a 2003 Yamaha Grizzly 660 - $2250 + Shipping. Lead time - 2 weeks from placement of order.

Wow, that is a little more expensive then I figured they would be. I would think that $1000 would be a reasonable price for those.
