I spend most of my riding in the sand .I have a 05 Kawasuki 400 .I weigh about 210 and have not been unhappy with this bike .I would not go smaller then 400. lots of Banshees out there great sand machine .I have 8 paddle haulers great tire but spendy.

Out of the quads you have posted I would go with one of the 250 two strokes. If you want a newer four stroke go with a 450.

The Raptors (660, 700) are sure hard to beat!

I agree with hayesjo, if you are going with a 250 it should probably be a two stroke. Only problem with a two stroke is the "hour of power". They are an absolute kick in the pants to ride, but they can also be a pain in the butt when you find yourself bringing along enough tools and parts to start your own shop.

The reliability of a 4 stroke is great, but I would definately not go any smaller than a 400 for sand + your size. I am 5'7" and 125lbs, and when I try to ride the LTZ400 at the dunes it is pinned more often than not.

As far as paddles go, we love our Haulers... but there are also much cheaper options out there that work well enough to get around (ITP sand stars). Just stay away from the Geckos! haha.

Good luck in your search!

(p.s. DODGE57HEMI- yes good bikes... but we love our LTRs.)

Yup! We love not having to worry about altitudes. (well, except on the Z of course, but it mostly stays at home these days)

What's your budget? You can have a lot of fun on a 400 and they are a good place to start if you're newer. They are also less finicky than some of the 450's and most of the 2 strokes, meaning more time riding and less time wrenching. The 400ex is about as bullet proof as they get and the ltz is nearly as bullet proof. However you will have to ride a 400 a little differently than a 450 in the dunes. Speaking from experience (I currently ride a slightly modded 400ex), you may have to get a rolling start at dune rather than just powering up it from a standstill. You may have to pick different lines if you're riding with a group of 450's. It's about planning ahead. That being said, if it's power that beckons, you may eventually reach a point where a 400 is no longer enough. The most popular 450 in our riding group is the KFX450, with a couple LTR450r's, TRX450r's, and YFZ's. But all of them seem to do quite well in the dunes. It just depends on what fits you better, whether or not you like fuel injection, or whether you want reverse.
