The herculiner aint to bad on $$$ if you shop around. I have found it for as cheap as $45-$50 a gallon for just the material alone. (not the kit) You'd have to figure your square footage but I'd say not bad. 1 gallon will do three good coats on a 6.5 full size bed which figures to be about 100 sq'. give or take. Sounds like youi got about 200 sq. ft.. I'd buy 4-5 gallons to get a nice heavy coating. I use herculiner on everything I want to keep sealed or slip resistent. Take a look at the tool boxes on my magnum. Herculiner!

How much of a PITA is it to roll this stuff (Hercules) on and how long does it take to set and dry?

Thanks,

It goes down pretty easy. I've always used a synthetic type foam roller and had good results. (One like what comes in a hurculiner kit.) And a cheap throw away brush for dabbing it into corners. Dry time will vary pending on temp and humidity. But on avg. I'd say about 1-2 hours between coats. Not sure about walking on it timewise (could do a 1st. coat day one then a second coat day 2. I know that it's supposed to be 24hrs for light duty and I think 48-72hrs for full cure. It retains a rubbery soft feel for probably a good week and really starts to harden after that. Might not be a one coat deal for your application unless you really slather it on and walk away. But that might affect the cure time. IDK. Theres also a type of epoxy resin garage floor paint that will cover approx. 300 sq. ft. at about $100-$150 per kit. Don't know to much about it though, I think I saw it at a menards, home depot or somthing along those lines.

R, another vote for Herculiner. I used to have to refinish my oak seats in my boat every couple of years. Looked nice but a real pain. I got a can of Herculiner and rolled them out and they've kept for several years now. Great stuff. Don't get the stuff that comes in a spray can. The Herculiner really holds up to abuse.

RM,

Great thanks for the good info. buddy. Keep ya all posted on what I will eventually
do! Going the cheaper route I may just settle for the paint stuff b/c it would seem that I would need to apply a thicker application w/Hercules = 2nd coat. Now when I add all that up, it will be probably over $500 dollars and I really just want to finish this project and get rolling (no pun).

Cheers,

R'

Check around online/e-bay,somtimes you can find the herculiner for around $50 per gallon can. I'd guess that two cans would give one coat on the entire floor for a 12x16. Probably would go further pending on how thick you put it on. The second coat always seems to go further than the first . If you could get by on just 4 gallons, your only looking at about $200-$250. If you do decide to go the paint route make sure it's truly chemical resistant. I've seen coatings that claim they resist chemicals (i.e. gas, diesel, oils) but only if you clean it up right away. I've got spots on my floor where diesel fuel turned the so-called top of the line sealer into a jello consistency over night.

You do not want something that will trap mosture between your wood floor and your choice of flooring.

If it was me I just would add a removable rubber roll mat. Oil base flooring paint is another option or both. Light color floor, easier to find those droped nuts and bolts that way. LOL

TLC,

I keep all my options open! Do you have links to those roll away mats? I've been looking at them for some time now and they are pricey. And I don't want anything that will buckle or wrickle with my bikes riding up and off of it. So please recommend a suitable product b/c there is alot out there to choose from and I need to go with what has been put to the test and something that would catch oil/gas and fluids and YES light in color to see any dropped hardware etc. Red maybe?

Thx,

R'
